Would you like a commercial-grade adjustable bench that will take anything you can throw at it for your home gym? Let’s talk about the Rep Fitness AB-5100. In this review, I’ll cover general specs, assembly, quality control, my own personal experience with this bench, and whether or not I think you should buy this bench.

AB-5100 Specs

The Rep Fitness AB-5100 is a beefy, overbuilt, monster of a bench. Like I said in the video review, it’s a higher quality bench than you’re probably used to seeing, even in commercial gyms. It’s made from 11 gauge steel and has a 1,000 lb weight capacity.

The back pad has seven positions, going from flat to 90-degrees in 15 degree increments. The seat has five positions, going from -15 degrees to 45 degrees in 15 degree increments.

It uses pop-pin style adjustments and has a stainless steel wear guard with laser cut degree markings (that looks pretty sweet might I add).

The back pad is 12 inches wide and 17.5 inches off the ground in the flat position.

There are wheel guards to prevent you from accidentally stepping on the wheels and slipping.

One point of contention for some is the gap between the seat and the back pad. In the flat position, there is a four inch gap. I’ve heard some complain about this, though I don’t find it to be a problem. (I would rather there be a slightly larger gap in the flat position than have the two pads smashed together when inclined.)

Lastly, there is an optional $89 leg attachment that connects to the top of the bench so that you can do decline exercises.

AB-5100 Assembly

Assembly of the Rep AB-5100 is incredibly quick and easy. There are four bolts to mount the feet to the frame, four bolts to mount the seat, six bolts to mount the back pad, and one bolt to attach the handle. The entire assembly process should only take 15 - 20 minutes.

Rep Fitness Quality Control

The only complaint I have about this bench isn’t about the bench itself but about the quality control. The first bench I received had a warped frame (pictures below) and I had to go through the process of getting it replaced.

The Rep rep (pun intended) was friendly and easy to work with and sent out a replacement bench right away. That said, it would have been nice for the original bench to have been caught by quality control and not sent out in the first place.

My Experience with the Rep AB-5100

I really like this bench a lot. As I said in the beginning, this is a big, beefy, overbuilt bench that is going to take anything you can throw at it. When I said this bench is better than the benches at most commercial gyms, I wasn’t exaggerating. In fact, when gyms open back up and we aren’t relegated to working out at home anymore, I’ll be a bit let down anytime I’m using benches at the gym.

Should you buy the Rep Fitness AB-5100?

At $399 for the bench and $89 for the optional leg attachment, this bench isn’t cheap, but considering the Rogue equivalent (the Rogue AB-3) costs $935, doesn’t have a wear guard with laser cut numbers, and doesn’t have wheel guards, I think the AB-5100 is the best bench you can get for the money.
