You’ve started a brand new workout program and you’re ready to start seeing results. You may also be a little bit nervous and not know what to expect. That's why I'm writing this post, describing what will likely happen and what you should expect. I don’t want you to be like the majority who get caught off guard during their journey and end up quitting out of frustration.

First Things First

The first couple of weeks are all about learning to build habits. Don't stress when you don't see results immediately. The results will come, but at this point, simply focus on completing your workouts and learning to accurately track your intake.

Some people may master these new habits immediately and some may take a couple of weeks. The key here is to realize that you’re building new habits. Messing up is normal. It’s part of the process, so don't be hard on yourself. When you mess up, just shrug it off and try again.

Early Results

Between weeks 2 and 4 is where you'll likely start to see some cool things happen. You'll start to be more confident in your ability to complete the workouts and hit your nutrition targets. Even cooler, when you start hitting those targets, you'll start to see your waist measurement go down.

I will warn you ahead of time, it's possible even though your waist is getting smaller, you will not have seen the scale move much at this point (especially if you’re new to weightlifting). Yes, you will be losing fat, but you will also be gaining muscle.

It's pretty common for the amount of weight my clients gain in muscle to equal the amount of weight they lose in fat. This is a good thing. It means you're successfully building the lean and toned body you're aiming for.

Remember, if your waist measurement is going down, you are losing fat. Don't get too hung up on the number on the scale. You should be celebrating at this point!

Continued Results

After about one to two months, the speed at which you're gaining muscle will likely start to slow down. After this happens, you will likely see the scale start to drop faster, but keep in mind, weight loss is almost never consistent, even if you are consistent.

There will be stops, starts, ups, and downs along the way. This is the rule, not the exception. If you expect it to happen, you won't be caught off guard when it does happen.

Hopefully this post helps you set your expectations and prevents you from being caught off guard. Remember, I'm here for you. If you have questions, let me know and I’ll try to write a post answering them in the future!
