Five things you NEED TO KNOW about weight loss

1) Weight loss and fat loss are different.

There are many things that contribute to our body weight other than fat. Just because the scale isn’t moving, doesn’t mean you aren’t losing fat. For the many of you who read or listen to the blogcast on a regular basis, you already knew this one. (Here’s a virtual pat on the back for being awesome.)

2) If you lose weight rapidly, it’s probably water.

Fat loss takes time. In fact, it often takes a few weeks to notices any significant changes on the scale when dieting. Some diet programs brag about how much weight you’ll lose during the first week or even the first 48 hours. Now you know they’re just trying to trick you and you can stay far far away. [1]

3) Weight loss isn’t a mystery.

There are an infinite number of claims about how to lose weight. Some say you have to keep your insulin levels low through low carb dieting. Some say you have to fast to burn fat. Some say it’s the meal timing. I’ve even heard someone claim the color of your food was important for weight loss.

With all of the misinformation, it seems like the real solution to weight loss is a mystery. Luckily for you, it’s not. Lower your Calories and you’ll lose weight. [2][3][4][5][6][7]

4) Losing weight can prevent many health problems.

As if the immediate benefits of weight loss weren't enough, weight loss, when coupled with exercise, can also help prevent many life-threatening conditions such as colon, prostate, and breast cancer [8] [9] [10] [11], type II diabetes [12], high blood pressure [13], high cholesterol [14], high triglycerides [15], heart attack [16], stroke [17], sleep apnea [18], Alzheimer's [19], dementia [20], and many others.

5) Weight lifting is bad for weight loss.

As I mentioned in number 1, there are many things that go into weight loss. One of them is lean body mass. When you lift weights, the weight of your lean body mass will increase, which will take away from your weight loss. The good news is, while weight lifting may be bad for weight loss, it’s great for fat loss. [21]
