The Death Of Your Dreams

When you lie on your death bed, will you be happy with the life you've lived? Most people don't like to talk about death. The fact is: we are all going to die. We might live to be 100, or we might get hit by a bus tomorrow, but death will eventually come for us all. We have a finite amount of time on this earth, in which we have to fit everything we want to accomplish. What have you accomplished in the past few days to get closer to achieving your goals? Past Week? Month? Year?

We live in a society where people are obsessed with fun. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that you shouldn't enjoy the journey as you chase your goals. On the contrary, if you don't love what you do, you need to find another goal to chase. I love helping people improve their health and physique. However, there are times that I don't feel like reading text books and scientific articles even though those things are necessary if I want to bring you the most accurate and effective information. So, even though I'm truly doing what I love to do, there will always be some aspects of it that aren't so fun.

On the wall in front of my desk, there is a sign that states my end goal. Around it are sticky notes-each with a phrase that I thought of, heard, or read, that helps keep me focused on why I do what I do. One of those sticky notes simply says, "you are going to die". Some may find this morbid but it is a reminder that I only have a limited amount time to reach that goal. The Bible says in John 4:14 "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." Our time is limited.

I ask you again. When you lie on your death bed, will you be happy with the life you've lived?
